The Spotify Genius partnership will bring full episodes of two established music-video series directly to Spotify. Spotify Technology (NYSE: SPOT) said users worldwide will be able to stream Genius’s Open Mic performances and Verified artist-led lyric breakdowns.
Open Mic features live performances, while Verified lets artists explain the meaning and stories behind their songs. Spotify will add a catalog of older Verified episodes alongside new releases, expanding the amount of video content available on the platform.
Spotify Genius Partnership Deepens Music Discovery Through Video
The two series launched in 2016 and have accumulated more than 3.7 billion combined views, according to Spotify. Bringing that library into the streaming service may encourage users to spend more time with visual content connected to the music they already follow.
Spotify described the programming arrangement in its official newsroom announcement. The company did not disclose financial terms or specify how advertising and revenue will be divided between the partners.
The Spotify Genius partnership supports Spotify’s broader effort to move beyond audio without separating music from the viewing experience. Its commercial contribution will depend on audience engagement, production cadence and Spotify’s ability to monetize video alongside its subscription business.
