The Waymo Las Vegas robotaxi service has begun offering fully autonomous trips to its first public riders. Alphabet (NASDAQ: GOOGL) said residents and visitors can use the service to reach destinations including Allegiant Stadium and The Venetian.
Waymo reported that more than 100,000 people expressed interest after the company spent months studying local roads. Las Vegas joins Denver and San Diego among the first markets expected to operate fleets made up primarily of Ojai vehicles powered by the sixth-generation Waymo Driver.
Waymo Las Vegas Robotaxi Service Expands Public Operations
The launch extends Waymo’s commercial footprint into a major tourism and entertainment market with heavy traffic and unusual driving patterns. A successful deployment could demonstrate how autonomous systems perform around dense visitor flows, large events and round-the-clock demand.
Waymo described the rollout in its official company announcement. The post did not specify the initial fleet size, complete service area, pricing structure or timetable for making rides available to every interested customer.
The Waymo Las Vegas robotaxi service will be judged on safety, availability, regulatory compliance and rider adoption. Expansion may also depend on vehicle supply and how quickly the company can scale operations while maintaining reliable service.
