Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang held important talks during his visit to South Korea to deepen the company’s collaboration with local tech giants. Announcing that Nvidia’s next-generation Vera processor will use memory chips manufactured by SK Hynix, Huang said the partnership between the two companies is expected to grow even further in the coming period.
Speaking to reporters in Seoul on Sunday, Huang said he had met for dinner with SK Group Chairman Chey Tae-won, SK Hynix CEO Kwak Noh-jung, and SK Telecom executives. “Our collaboration with SK Hynix this year has been on a very large scale,” Huang said. “We are making preparations for much larger projects in the second half of this year and next year.” He added, “We introduced the revolutionary Vera CPU, and this processor will utilize SK Hynix’s DRAM memory.”
The Vera CPU, Nvidia’s first standalone data center microprocessor, will directly compete with Intel’s Xeon series, Advanced Micro Devices’ EPYC processors, and the Graviton chips developed by Amazon Web Services.
Arriving in South Korea on Friday, Huang is said to have held meetings with business partners and suppliers during his trip. Nvidia’s CEO is scheduled to meet with Samsung Electronics Vice Chairman Jun Young-hyun on Monday, and it has also been reported that he will hold meetings with executives from Hyundai Motor Group and LG Group.
Huang also stated that telecommunications networks will be used more intensively in artificial intelligence applications in the future, adding that various cooperation opportunities in this area are being explored with telecommunications companies.
