S&P Dow Jones Indices said the changes will take effect before trading opens on September 21. The complete list was published in the index provider’s official quarterly rebalance announcement.
Bloom Energy (NYSE: BE), Everpure (NYSE: P) and Illumina (Nasdaq: ILMN) will enter the S&P 500. Molson Coors Beverage (NYSE: TAP), The Trade Desk (Nasdaq: TTD) and Builders FirstSource (NYSE: BLDR) will leave the large-cap index and move to the S&P SmallCap 600.
September S&P 500 Rebalance Extends Across Major Indices
Dell Technologies (NYSE: DELL), Palo Alto Networks (Nasdaq: PANW), Arista Networks (NYSE: ANET) and Sandisk (Nasdaq: SNDK) will join the S&P 100. Honeywell Aerospace (NYSE: HONA), Nike (NYSE: NKE), Simon Property Group (NYSE: SPG) and Colgate-Palmolive (NYSE: CL) will be removed.
Index changes can generate trading activity because passive funds and benchmark-aware portfolios must adjust their holdings. The size and timing of the resulting flows depend on each security’s index weight and the assets tracking the affected benchmarks.
Inclusion does not represent an investment recommendation or guarantee future performance. S&P Dow Jones Indices said the changes are intended to keep each index representative of its market-capitalization segment.
