BNG Lending Growth Reaches €7.3 Billion in First Half

BNG lending growth pushed new long-term lending to €7.3 billion in the first half of 2026, from €5.3 billion a year earlier, according to the Dutch public-sector lender. The bank said demand from social housing associations was the main driver.

Net profit fell to €101 million from €142 million in the first half of 2025. BNG attributed the decline largely to a €56 million loss on financial transactions, compared with a €3 million loss a year earlier, which it said reflected hedge-accounting effects.

BNG Lending Growth Supported by Housing Demand

Net interest income rose to €262 million from €246 million, while the nominal value of the long-term loan book increased by €1.6 billion to €97.3 billion, BNG said in its first-half statement. Total assets climbed by €10.1 billion to €125.7 billion.

The lender raised €8.6 billion in long-term funding during the period, including €4 billion of ESG bonds. It reported a liquidity coverage ratio of 221%, a net stable funding ratio of 145%, a Common Equity Tier 1 ratio of 42%, and a leverage ratio of 12%.

BNG also introduced a green loan for housing associations, under which borrowers may receive a bonus when they demonstrate sustainable outcomes. The bank said it expects client financing demand to remain firm in the second half, even as geopolitical and economic uncertainty continues to weigh on financial markets.
