The Dow Q3 earnings outlook now calls for approximately $1.5 billion to $1.6 billion, modestly below the chemical company’s previous view. Dow (NYSE: DOW) attributed the adjustment to headwinds early in the quarter that offset more recent positive market developments in materials demand.
The update was included in materials for the Morgan Stanley Laguna Conference. The figure is a forward-looking management estimate, not a reported third-quarter result, and may change as the quarter closes and the company finalizes its accounts.
Dow Q3 Earnings Outlook Reflects Early-Quarter Pressure
Dow did not frame the conference update as a broad recovery in chemical demand. The company instead indicated that recent improvement had not fully overcome earlier pressure. Investors will look for more detail on volumes, selling prices, input costs and regional conditions when Dow issues its full quarterly report.
The company’s official conference presentation page provides the investor materials. Dow also said it expects to release more than $500 million of net working capital during the second half of 2026, a potential source of cash even as earnings remain under pressure.
Management said about 70% of a planned 4,500 role reductions had been implemented and that nearly all were expected to be completed by year-end. The restructuring is intended to lower costs, but the final effect on margins depends on execution and on broader market conditions.
Cash Release and Cost Cuts Are Key Variables
For investors, the Dow Q3 earnings outlook shifts attention from the headline estimate to the durability of cash generation. Working-capital release can improve cash flow in the near term, but it is not necessarily a recurring source of profit in later periods.
Dow’s third-quarter earnings release is scheduled for October 22. That report should clarify the period’s actual performance and allow investors to compare the conference estimate with delivered results, progress on workforce changes and management’s view of demand heading into the final quarter.
