SolarEdge AI Powertrain Reaches New 800-Volt Milestone

The SolarEdge AI powertrain reached a new development milestone as its medium-voltage to 800-volt direct-current conversion stage began operating under load. SolarEdge Technologies (NASDAQ: SEDG) is developing the grid-to-rack architecture for power-intensive artificial intelligence data centers.

The company also published a protection and grounding framework developed with Nvidia (NASDAQ: NVDA). The paper outlines the evidence and validation needed to operate 800-volt DC systems safely, including different grounding options and a zone-based approach to locating and isolating electrical faults.

Protection methods used in alternating-current systems do not automatically transfer to converter-fed DC infrastructure. The framework proposes continuous operation in restricted facility zones when appropriate, paired with immediate interruption at rack interfaces where personnel work.

SolarEdge is also working with Infineon on solid-state circuit breakers designed to interrupt DC faults within microseconds. Nvidia supports an open, multi-vendor 800-volt ecosystem, and the companies described SolarEdge’s configuration as one candidate implementation rather than a universal standard.

The commercial opportunity for the SolarEdge AI powertrain will depend on successful testing, certification and adoption by data center operators. The milestone shows technical progress, but it does not establish the timing or scale of future revenue.
