The Vicor ChiP Fab expansion will add two planned manufacturing facilities in New Hampshire as utilization at the company’s existing Massachusetts factory approaches capacity. Vicor (NASDAQ: VICR) is acquiring properties in Merrimack and Hooksett to support the buildout.
The Merrimack purchase includes a 334,000-square-foot building on 66 acres of industrial land. Vicor is separately acquiring 54 acres in Hooksett, giving the company two sites for its planned ChiP Fab-2 and Fab-3 facilities.
Vicor ChiP Fab Expansion Targets Greater Power Module Capacity
Together, the two new fabs are expected to have a combined footprint of nearly one million square feet. That would exceed the scale of ChiP Fab-1 in Andover, Massachusetts, which was built out to 320,000 square feet on 16 acres.
Vicor publishes manufacturing and product developments through its official press room. The company did not provide a complete construction timetable, expected capital expenditure or a date when the new capacity will begin contributing to output.
The Vicor ChiP Fab expansion could support future demand for high-density power modules used in computing, industrial and other electronic systems. Its financial return will depend on customer demand, construction execution, equipment installation and the pace at which the facilities reach efficient utilization.
