TotalEnergies Grandpuits Plant Moves to Full Company Ownership

The TotalEnergies Grandpuits plant is now fully owned by TotalEnergies after the company agreed to acquire the remaining 35% interest from Plastic Energy’s new shareholder. TotalEnergies (NYSE: TTE) previously held a 65% stake in the advanced plastics recycling facility.

The plant, located in France’s Seine-et-Marne department, began production in March and can process 15,000 metric tons of plastic waste annually. It targets difficult-to-recycle household material that might otherwise be sent to landfill or incineration.

The facility uses pyrolysis, which heats plastic waste at high temperatures without oxygen, to produce synthetic oil. That output can replace a portion of fossil feedstock in petrochemical manufacturing and contribute to recycled plastics suitable for demanding applications, including food and medical uses.

The company’s official press release archive provides updates on the Grandpuits transformation. TotalEnergies also signed an agreement in 2023 with Citeo and Paprec intended to secure a long-term supply of plastic waste for the facility.

Full ownership gives TotalEnergies greater control over operations and future investment decisions. The commercial impact of the TotalEnergies Grandpuits plant will depend on utilization rates, collection volumes, energy costs and customer demand for certified circular feedstocks.
