US President Donald Trump said during a meeting with French President Emmanuel Macron that the text of the deal between the US and Iran would be made public following the official signing on Friday.
While noting that the Strait of Hormuz is completely open and that the agreements were signed electronically, Trump reiterated that sanctions against Iran would only be lifted after the Tehran government fulfills its obligations.
Trump said that U.S. Vice President JD Vance would participate in the signing process, but added that it remains to be seen whether he himself would attend the ceremony. Trump stated that they wish to establish good relations with Iran but that the deal would be implemented with a robust monitoring mechanism.
Trump also explicitly expressed that Iran would not possess nuclear weapons. Noting that he also wanted a resolution to the Lebanon issue, the U.S. President implied that the agreement was being addressed in a way that would encompass regional fronts as well.
Trump also referred to the significant drop in oil prices and the rise in stock markets, saying that these developments demonstrated the deal’s positive impact on the markets.
A source speaking to the Iran-aligned Fars News Agency, however, shared some striking details regarding the negotiation process between the U.S. and Iran. According to the source, the diplomatic process reached a breaking point following Israel’s attack on Lebanon on June 14. Iran was reportedly preparing for a new and large-scale military attack against Israel, but with Trump’s intervention, the U.S. offered new concessions.
The source added that Iran ultimately concluded that the agreement aligns with both its own national interests and the interests of the Lebanese people.
According to reports, the most significant changes made in the final stage included the cancellation of the plan to gradually lift the naval blockade against Iran within 30 days—instead, the blockade would be lifted immediately—and the clarification that the ceasefire would cover all fronts, including Lebanon.
The text of the agreement also reportedly included an emphasis on respect for Lebanon’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
