The Amkor Arizona investment plan has increased to approximately $12 billion as the semiconductor packaging company adds a second phase to its manufacturing campus.
Amkor Technology (NASDAQ: AMKR) said customer commitments have exceeded the 33,000 square meters of cleanroom capacity planned for the first phase. Phase 2 is expected to add another 60,000 square meters, bringing planned cleanroom space across the site to roughly 93,000 square meters.
Amkor Arizona Investment Expands Advanced Packaging Capacity
The campus is designed to provide wafer bumping, probe, assembly and testing capabilities. Those operations sit between semiconductor fabrication and the finished chips installed in computing, communications, automotive and other electronic systems.
Amkor said the combined phases are expected to support more than 3,500 Arizona-based employees. The expansion reflects demand for additional domestic advanced-packaging and testing capacity as chipmakers and technology companies invest in U.S. supply chains.
The latest project value is a planned investment rather than spending already completed. Construction schedules, customer demand and final capacity deployment can change as the phases progress. The company’s investor-relations newsroom contains its formal project announcements and updates.
