Meta Platforms has introduced Muse Image, a new image-generation artificial intelligence model, marking the company’s first major release of its kind since it began investing billions of dollars to rebuild its AI lab under chief AI officer Alexandr Wang, Bloomberg reported.
The model is rolling out Tuesday through the Muse AI chatbot and will also be integrated across Meta’s social platforms, including Instagram and WhatsApp. According to Bloomberg, Meta eventually plans to sell access to its AI models to outside developers through a cloud-based offering.
Muse Image will power more than 30 new AI effects for Instagram Stories and allow users to generate images in direct chats with Meta AI on WhatsApp. The initial rollout will be limited to select countries, with Meta planning to expand availability to more regions over time.
The company also said Muse Image will later be integrated into Facebook and Messenger. Basic use of Muse Image through Meta AI will be free, while additional creation tools and expanded capabilities will be offered through Meta’s subscription plans.
The launch follows Meta’s April debut of Muse Spark, the first text-and-reasoning AI model from the Meta Superintelligence Labs team assembled last year as the company sought to close the gap with rivals in the artificial intelligence race.
Alongside Muse Image, Meta also announced an early preview of Muse Video, its video-generation AI model, signaling a broader push to compete in the rapidly growing market for generative media tools.
